I don't know how relevant this is to you theatre folks, but last night I went to see LAOpera's reworking and modernization of Manon by Massenet. This opera is conducted by Artistic Director and virtuoso Placido Domingo. I just have to say, this is the most dramatic, beautiful, sexy opera I have ever seen, and if you can go ( meaning you are in the LA area)-- do. Anna Netrebko is a gem. I loved it.

I started teaching this week! Its the beginning of the school year for us out here. I work at a multi-track, year round school, which means that my first semester begins the week of July 4th and ends the third week of October. Its kind of cool. But it is so hard to watch all of my normal teacher friends enjoy the summer weather and the beach and lake house ( what have you) while I begin teaching my students my classroom procedures.

Jealousy kills. Anyway. I can't really complain. I do get four entire months off a year.

Anyway...I said that to say. I am back!

i thought this test was worth posting....
that says a lot. check it out. its hilarious to take!

the Wit
(61% dark, 26% spontaneous, 26% vulgar)
your humor style:
CLEAN | COMPLEX | DARK

You like things edgy, subtle, and smart. I guess that means you're
probably an intellectual, but don't take that to mean pretentious. You
realize 'dumb' can be witty--after all isn't that the Simpsons'
philosophy?--but rudeness for its own sake, 'gross-out' humor and most
other things found in a fraternity leave you totally flat.

I guess you just have a more cerebral approach than most. You have the perfect mindset for a joke writer or staff writer.

Your sense of humor takes the most thought to appreciate, but it's also the best, in my opinion.

You probably loved the Office. If you don't know what I'm
talking about, check it out here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/theoffice/.

My principal has approved my proposal to direct Into the Woods, Jr. How exciting indeed. That was my favorite show in high school and the beginning of my obsession with Stephen Sondheim.
so excited:)

hello all you long lost lj, buds!
I have been on my 2 month break from teaching and it was pure heaven. along the way i was blessed with a brand new nephew ( he looks like an adorable little frog), some nice presents, and the return of my hair undreaded! phew, that was a lot of transition- but its good to be feeling fresh and renewed.

anyhow, today we are playing improv games in my drama class. gibberish is at the top of the list ( focusing on creating and sustaining imaginary situations). here we go!

i'll holler:)

The cabaret show went exceedingly well last night. Before I talked to anyone after my performance, I was feeling ho hum. Like I didn't completely suck, but I wasn't amazing. But then I was just bombarded with crazy praise from my friend who has starred on Broadway (sunset blvd/grease) and another performer from the nat'l tour of Ragtime. The critic from a major NYC cabaret magazine thought I put on a consistent set, with songs that really matched my voice and showed it off. WHEW! is all i can say.

I am really happy that it went well. And my family and one of my friends from church came out, and it was so sweet how supportive they were.
i was more concerned about the strangers from the hotel being entertained and liking my performance, but everyone was so great and warm. I couldn't have asked for a better show.

Yo,
I will be guest-starring at this cabaret night, next thursday in west hollywood. It is not the hugest deal, but it would be great if some of you guys could make it out for the show.

It is a back to broadway show (so show tunes are a must) and it is held at the 1020 lounge in the wyndham bel age hotel in hollywood.

google my name and you can get the address and details. show starts at 9p

I will sing a set of four songs. HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

P&P
The Pride and Prejudice type: Truly an Austenite,
this type is a Romantic at heart, but they
always keep their head and are wary of
melodrama. Lively, clever, and independent.
These people are easily amused by their own
foibles and the quirkly foibles of others. They
lament society today, and dream of the time
when guys were gentlemen and girls were ladies.

I am dating the single most handsome man i have ever known.

His beauty is kind of quiet-- then it just hits you in such an overwhelming way.

superficially the man is beautiful...his body, his features, his outline.

But that is surpassed by his sincerity and generosity. He is genteel and warm. Helpful and compassionate.

i am so blessed i can't hardly stand it.

oh-- and he loves me.

Today we should all give thanks for the significant others in our life--especially if they are your dream come true!

some people have been upset with me because i don't post often enough.

well, in all honesty, i have been so busy that I have not had a second to sift through all that is my existence and then restate it for the general public to read but here goes...

RAGTIME..my first professional ( by that i mean equity and paying) gig has officially closed. I didn't know it was going to be this hard. Alas, I loved the cast. Everyone was fun and intelligent and sensitive (even the annoying people were not too annoying). I will surely miss them. But i have several new and continuing friendships, which is great.

I am so ecstatic to be back in the realm of theater!

The visit with my boyfriend was great. We are doing so well... On March 2 we celebrated a year of courtship. He is so romantic--
i used to think that I was romantic and expressively so before I met him. nope, i'm not comparatively.

I am indeed a lucky girl--

now about my totalled car....on to the paperwork.

STILL MOURNING THE DEATH OF OZZIE DAVIS.

i wonder how ruby dee is holding up.

i always dreamt that i would meet them one day and that they would treat my like their daughter (grand?) and that we would laugh and talk about theater then and now. About the future of african american opportunity in film/tv/theater...about love and building a strong marriage.

my dream's been crushed.

woe is me.

(how insensitive and selfish of me...oh well)

Hey everyone. Nearly done with the first week of rehearsals. We are moving fast and I am loving it. The show is called Ragtime and you can see the venue et al at www.musical.org . The company is called Musical Theater West and everyone on the production team is insanely good.

We open in three weeks and have a performance of the opening act (costumes et al) in one. How nutsy bobo is that?

Weee!

Hope some of ya'll can make it:)
Our last performance is March 6.

LOOKY LOOKY__ I am a grammar Godess!

Grammar God!
You are a GRAMMAR GOD!

Congratulations! If your mission in life
is not already to preserve the English tongue,
it should be. You can smell a grammtical
inaccuracy from fifty yards. Your speech is
revered by the underlings, though some may
blaspheme and call you a snob. They're just
jealous. Go out there and change the world.

Many of you don't realize that i was in NYC with the boy of my dreams for a month and half. from Oct 28- dec 12.

I made a pit stop in Indiana and Chicago ( my good friend got married) and then went back to the big apple and auditioned for six shows ( four for Broadway, one tour, and one weirdo thing that I decided not to do).

It was an amazing thing and it inspired me to start auditioning in my city again.

AND!...I got cast in my first equity show ( i am not equity yet, but I am able to earn points and work in a professional setting!)

Yay! more details to follow ( well comment if you want more) .

ahhh! I am sooo tired.
the boy left this morning super early so we just stayed up all night.

uh..oh yeah i go to work. remember that fun place you love to arrive after an-up-all-night kind of evening?

very cool indeed!

oh and I feel like i was especially annoying this weekend. it was my birthday and all but the boy is amazing...so why I gots to act all weird and bossy and prissy and stuff? That didn't even seem like me (retrospectively). maybe its because i know he will be cool with me pretty much no matter what.

hey thanks to everyone who made my night special! I love you guys!
